Quelques mois plus tard, l’annonce que les Pet Shop Boys allaient enregistrer une Peel Session fut accueillie avec incrédulité par certains, mais elle sonnait aussi comme une petite revanche pour tous ceux qui souffraient de les voir cantonnés dans leur ghetto "pop commerciale plus très fraîche". On peut penser ce que l’on veut de John Peel [mais liens mp3 invalides, cherchez plutôt sur la page de Peel sur BBC Radio 1 et la BBC archive et ici où vous trouverez un alléchant 45 secondes d'une session de Boards of Canada.    ★★★★☆ pour tout ça.] [M]ais [le patronage de John Peel] apporte encore un petit surcroît de crédibilité. De cette session, je vous propose le franchement irrésistible A powerful friend [...] les commentaires de John Peel à la fin du morceau ... expriment assez bien ce que je pense : "To the handful of malcontents who felt that for some reason we shouldn’t have the Pet Shop Boys on the programme, if I told you they were something like "Eins Zwei Drei" from Mulheim, you’d think they were wonderful". Battleship Potemkin CD - 25 August '05

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe release their original music for Eisenstein’s classic film “Battleship Potemkin” as a joint venture between EMI Classics and Parlophone on Sep 5.

The music was recorded in London and Berlin with the Dresdner Sinfoniker in 2004, with orchestrations by Torsten Rasch.

It was premiered on Sep 12 last year, when Pet Shop Boys and the Dresdner Sinfoniker played the score to accompany a screening of the film in London’s Trafalgar Square. The free event was presented by the ICA and GLA and attracted 25,000 people. At the time, The Independent noted that “this must be the largest audience for an art movie ever recorded”.
