Martin Patriquin (Tête Carré (sic) in Maclean’s Montreal bureau) and Philippe Gohier (a Franco pur laine working in the Maclean’s mother ship in Toronto) dissect and discuss the filth and delight from Quebec.

Had Heinrich not leaked it, the Bouchard-Taylor report would have become, like the Castonguay Report and Johnson Inquiry before it, the subject of one or even three existential crises, several dozen editorials, something about sovereignty, a few kicks at “les anglos du West Island” before devolving into the usual partisan bickering. Consume, digest, rinse and spit. Hey, at least we’re predictable.

Consume, digest, rinse and spit, Martin Paquin, 20 mai 2008

Heureusement qu'on les a.

Among the the low-rent, browshirt-wannabe groups that turned up was the Milice Patriotique Québécoise (the Patriotic Militia of Quebec)

They’re just misunderstood, Philippe Gohier, 20 mai 2008

... an increasingly long list of bizarre attempts to imbue the Canadiens with nationalist fervour. When Daniel Brière declined to sign with the Habs last summer, La Presse’s Stéphane Laporte pilloried the Flyers’ forward for turning down the opportunity “to play for your gang, for the people who speak the same language you do.” A few months later, it was Saku Koivu’s turn to get the Uncle Tom treatment. After introducing his teammates in English only during the team’s home opener, Koivu met the wrath of sovereignist-cum-federalist-cum-sovereignist lawyer Guy Bertrand, who claimed Koivu’s linguistic faux pas “demonstrates contempt for our language.”

Technotronic breathes a sigh of relief, Philippe Gohier, 8 mai 2008

(... the last province election campaign was little more than a sloppy French kiss to all things rural and de souche.) While the hatred often comes across as the domain of language warriors who see Montreal as the hub of assimilation, make no mistake: it’s not just pur laine cranks who hate the island. Quebecers all around the province harbour a deep-seated resentment towards Mourrial.

Montreal is not Quebec, Philippe Gohier, 5 mai 2008

Israéliens, pas zionistes

There are, however, military men, Israeli soldiers that used to do battle with the Palestinian people who at the moment of truth found that they are no more than pawns in the hands of the occupation. They had the courage and the valor to announce unanimously that they refuse to be occupiers. They exposed the falsehoods of their leaders who claim that Israel is reaching out her hand for peace but she has no partner on the Palestinian side. They discovered that they had never met a real Palestinian fighter face-to-face in combat, and that instead their day-to-day work was chasing schoolchildren, enforcing closures, destroying houses and putting up checkpoints and roadblocks to stop children who aren't even 13 years old. They took a moral and courageous stance and without any difficulty found themselves a Palestinian partner from within the heart of the Palestinian movement, people who wasted the spring of their youth in the prisons of your occupation. Together they founded the organization Combatants for Peace. The name itself exposes the false promises and the policy that says there is no partner for peace. This organization, united in courageousness and and morality, is made up of people from both sides who understand that there is only one shared enemy that conceals the path of realization of peace and life together as two nations. This enemy is the illegal and immoral Israeli occupation. I am a member of this organization, and I call upon all who are searching for a true peace to join us.

Now the thing that boggles my mind is how BULLSHIT this whole thing sounds. It uses what they claim to be RKS or “Recognition Krax System” technology, which with a quick search on google provides absolutely no results to anything that isn’t directly linked to this product itself. You’d think such revolutionary technology that allows a robot to cook for you, clean for you and maintain intellectual conversation would have a LITTLE more publicity than this right? Especially with a release date not even 3 weeks away.

  • All quieted on the word front (pdf) [he] therefore is telling us, loud and clear, that he not only is a dedicated opponent of freedom of speech, but he believes with equal passion that it is critically important to safeguard the right to lie not in the interests of freedom of expression, which he strongly opposes, as just demonstrated, but rather in one special case: to lie in service of power and privilege.
